Valentine’s is a fun day to treat those special people in your life with love notes and secret surprises. I also personally LOVE the colors associated with Valentine’s Day. Red’s, pinks, and peaches are so happy and really brighten up my mood on these gray winter days. I decided this year to create some simple pom pom flowers using my favorite Valentine color combo – red and peach. It’s an easy project that you can finish with just some basic yarn, a glue gun, scissors and some twigs from your yard.
Supplies for Pom Pom Flowers:
- yarn
- scissors
- hot glue gun
- twigs for stems
Begin by wrapping yarn around your fingers. The size of your pom pom will be determined by how many times you wrap the yarn. For the pom poms on my flowers I wrapped the yarn roughly 50 times.
Carefully remove the wrapped yarn from your fingers and place it over a 7 inch length of yarn.
Tie the 7 inch length of yarn around the wrapped piece tightly.
Next use your scissors to cut the loops of the wrapped yarn.
When the loops are cut, your yarn ball will look like this:
Simply trim the yarn ball to create a more uniform look.
To make the flowers, attach the yarn ball to the end of a twig using a glue gun.
The pom pom flowers look great displayed in a vase, attached on top of a gift, or given in a bunch to a friend.

I love these! I think I’m going to give this craft a go tomorrow – only four days ’til Valentine’s day, but they could be our February flowers! Thanks for the tutorial!
Love the pom pom flowers. When I make pom poms, I usually put the 7″ piece of tie yarn between my middle fingers before I wrap my fingers, then have a helper tie the knot or if no one is around I use my other hand and my teeth.
