We love making pom poms with yarn. They are simple and fun, everyone can make these! Plus they make pretty garlands and present toppers, so why not jewelry for a yarn pom-pom necklace?! Here’s the easy tutorial!

Yarn Pom-Pom Necklace Accents: Want a super easy piece of DIY jewelry that your child can make and wear? This yarn pom-pom necklace can be made in under an hour and can be reused in many ways.

Yarn Pom-Pom Necklace Tutorial

Supplies:

• yarn in your choice of colors – We used 2 Ply acrylic wool in Yellow, Green & White
• fork
• Scissors
• large needle
• chain or a child’s necklace

Instructions:

Start by holding a piece of yarn between two prongs of a Plastic fork. The size of the fork will determine the size of the pom pom. Use your thumb to keep it in place.

Wrap the yarn around the fork 40-50 times. If you wanted to make larger pom-poms, you could wrap the yarn around 3 fingers.

Once you’ve wrapped the yarn, cut it off from the skein. Leave the yarn on the fork while cutting a separate piece of yarn at least 6 inches long. Wrap this perpendicularly around your yarn by taking one end and pushing between the fork below the yarn and tying a tight knot as shown.

Now take your scissors and insert them into the top of the pom-pom and cut through the loops. Repeat on the bottom of the pom-pom. Make sure to NOT cut the two long strands around the middle of the pom-pom. You will use those to tie the pom-pom to your necklace.

The key to a nice puffy pom-pom is giving it a good trim. While holding onto the two long strands of yarn, trim down the pom-pom until you get the look you want.

We made two more pom-poms one in yellow and another in white. But you could use your own colors too. Using a large needle we stitched the three pom-poms together to form a triangle.

Find the middle of your necklace and start tying the pom-poms by using the two long strands.You may want to tie the pom-poms loosely at first until you get the arrangement you want, then go back and tie securely with a double knot.

These pom poms are so much fun to make – Use them as napkin holders, bookmarks, bag tags even as gift toppers.
