Watercolors are my favorite medium to paint with and my students love it too. Your kids will love our beginner watercolor art like our truffula tree watercolor art and our sun and moon watercolor project. We have helpful tips for watercoloring with kids, but if your kids are having trouble getting started with a watercolor art, try our guided project below.
Our watercolor painting projects for kids use guided rather than instructional ideas for process watercolor art that kids will love creating. There is no right or wrong way to create our watercolor art, all they need is their imagination.
Watercolor painting ideas for kids
Sometimes kids need a little inspiration to get started with art. Whether you have a Cricut to cut out blank images, or you cut out images from coloring pages, this could spark a world of creativity. You can also download images from PicMonkey or Canva.
Supplies needed
- Plain or watercolor paper
- Several blank images to choose from
- Watercolor paints
- Paintbrushes
- Glue stick
Instructions
Let your child choose which image they would like to use for their watercolor art. Make sure you provide them with a few different ideas, for example, dinosaurs, animals, people, buildings, or vehicles.
Once they have chosen their image, they can glue it onto the paper.
Let them create the background for the image they chose. There is no right or wrong way for them to do this, so let them use their imagination.
Once they have finished their watercolor art, set it aside to dry and ask them if they would like to try another on. You will find that the more the practice the more they will use their imagination.
