We don’t just have these 7 ways to decorate for winter, we also have 9 winter cabin inspired home decorating ideas, and if flannel plaid is your thing, we’ve got 6 DIY flannel plaid projects to warm up your home. If you like something with softer colors though I’m showing you how to make a pretty winter wall hanging below.

How to make a winter wall hanging for your home

This is simply the prettiest wall hanging. If you want something a little different than the rustic vibe, buffalo print, or Christmas colors, then this is for you. If you do celebrate the holidays, you can absolutely pair it with soft pinks, blues, white, gold, and green.

Supplies

  • 10.5 inch embroidery hoop – although you can use any size you like
  • Winter patterned fabric
  • Assorted scrap fabric, ribbons, leather straps, lace, yarn, and hemp cord

Here are suggestions for winter fabric patterns that are not holiday-themed:

  • Deer
  • Trees
  • Snow
  • Snowmen
  • Snowflakes
  • Winter landscapes
  • Penguins
  • Polar bears
  • Woodland
  • Pine needles
  • Poinsettia

Instructions

Separate the embroidery hoop and tie scraps of fabric, ribbon, lace, yarn, or whatever else you are using to the outside hoop.

Tip: Fold each piece in half, form a loop and pull the ends through to tie it on.

Continue tying ribbons, yarn, and fabric on until you have the desired look.

Place the main pattern of fabric over the inside hoop. Put the outside hoop over the top until it is firmly in place.

Tighten the embroidery hoop, and then trim the fabric in a circular shape so that it’s a few inches all the way around.

Use the instructions for my llama embroidery hoop for gathering the back of the fabric, and then you can add an optional piece of fleece over the top if you like.
