Not only do we show you how easy it is for the kids to decorate a Father’s Day tie cake for Dad, but we also have a fun Father’s Day tie card, coloring page printables, and crafts.
How to decorate a Father’s Day tie cake
Ingredients
- Basic sheet cake (homemade or store-bought)
- White cake icing
- White cookie frosting
- Mini M&M’s
- Sprinkles (optional)
We used a store-bought cake, but to make your cake extra special, get the kids to help in the kitchen baking Dad a cake in his favorite flavor.
Instructions
This simple Father’s Day tie cake is so simple to decorate, so it’s perfect for kids. We used our Father’s Day tie coloring page for inspiration.
Begin by making a ‘knot’ for your tie in the top center of the cake. You can make this one color, or use as many colors as you like.
Once you’ve finished the knot, work your way down the cake making the tie. As you can see from the photo above, we put stripes on our tie in two colors. For every third row, add one more M&M until your tie looks wide enough. Then you will decrease two M&M’s at a time to make the point at the bottom, ending with just one M&M.
To finish off our tie cake, I took inspiration from our Father’s Day tie coloring page and used cookie icing to add a shirt color and pocket.
