If you are starting your spring cleaning, hang onto those things that you love and can repurpose. You might not love it or wear it how it is now, but you can turn it into something that you will wear. We’ve previously shown you how to patch jeans with repurposed items, make a bird bath using repurposed items, and you won’t believe what we used to make a flower frog. Below, we are showing you how to repurpose old jewelry and turn them into pretty hair clips that you will want to wear.
I don’t wear a lot of jewelry. Necklaces tend to get in my way and anything other than tiny earrings feel heavy and hurt after a while. I also love finding costume and vintage jewelry when I go antique shopping. Hair clips are something that I’ll wear every day though.
Repurpose old jewelry into hair clips
Whether you love to shop at antique stores or thrift stores or have a collection of old jewelry at home that you don’t wear, you will once you turn them into pretty hair clips. With most of these items I was able to make matching hair clips for my daughter and I.
What you need
- Old jewelry – brooches, clip-on earrings, pierced earrings that are too large or heavy, costume jewelry, pendants
- Alligator clips
- E-6000 glue
- Small end grinder
Instructions
Using the small end grinder, carefully remove the backs, loops, or pins from your jewelry. This prevents sharp edges and leaves a clean edge for gluing your jewelry into place. Leave them upside down to dry once you’ve glued them as E6000 can take a little bit to harden so the clips may slide a little.
This re-purposing idea is so quick and simple and as you can see, the hair clips we made are so pretty and can be worn for any occasion.
