I know we don’t want to think about it while we enjoy summer break, but back-to-school is on the horizon. We’ve got some fun ideas for the classroom including these DIY supply caddies, shareable back-to-school supplies, and lots of super cute ideas for the teacher’s desk. Below we show you how easy it is to make hand-painted shoes for teachers and students.
Teachers and students, check out our hand-painted shoes to kick off the school year on the right foot. Our design is inspired by the artwork of Eric Carle. I’ll be wearing these when I head back into the classroom this fall.

Instructions
Make sure your shoes are clean before you get started.
The first step for hand-painted shoes is to sketch your design onto the shoe before you start painting. Once you have started painting you can’t undo it.
I prefer to draw my design using a pencil, it’s very easy to erase it.
I was inspired by the art of Eric Carle for this project, but also by the art above that my daughter created when she was younger. The colors and swirls stood out to me the most and I decided to incorporate them into the design.
Once you have a basic idea of your design you can continue adding to it. I prefer to paint a little as I go though so I can get a feel for the colors and lines and where I want everything to go.
Once I finished painting the shoes I didn’t want to put the laces back in them and hide the pretty sun and apple. So, using E-6000 glue, I glued the sides of each shoe to the tongue, holding them with clips until the glue was completely dry.
Tip: If I were you, I’d glue them before painting them, but this was a last-minute decision for me.
I love how these shoes turned out though and cannot wait to wear them when school is back in session.
Have you seen our hand-painted mermaid shoes? This is another fun option for kids.
